Dr. Steven Ovadia, MD, is a board-certified plastic surgeon offering a broad range of feminizing procedures in New York City and New Jersey. Dr. Ovadia has completed two advanced surgical fellowships and previously held a leadership role in transgender health at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. He offers Vaginoplasty, Facial Feminization Surgery, Breast Augmentation, Body Feminization, Orchiectomy and other gender-affirming procedures.

Fellowship Training in Gender Surgery

Following his Plastic Surgery Residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital / University of Miami, Dr. Ovadia completed a fellowship in Complex Gender Surgery and Microsurgery at Johns Hopkins.

He subsequently completed his Craniofacial and Pediatric Plastic Surgery fellowship, giving him advanced training in facial skeletal surgery in addition to his gender surgery training.

Dr. Ovadia later served as the Director of Rutgers Center for Transgender Health at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and now practices at Ovadia Plastic Surgery in Lower Manhattan and Millburn, New Jersey.

Dr. Ovadia is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and belongs to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and World Professional Association for Transgender Health.

He has published more than 25 peer-reviewed scientific articles, including research involving gender-affirming and craniofacial surgery.

Vaginoplasty in New York

Dr. Ovadia performs both Penile Inversion Vaginoplasty and Peritoneal Vaginoplasty.

The surgical approach is determined during consultation based on the procedure being considered, the patient’s anatomy and their surgical goals. Dr. Ovadia also performs standalone Orchiectomy for patients seeking removal of the testicles without Vaginoplasty.

Facial Feminization Surgery

Dr. Ovadia’s craniofacial training provided extensive experience in facial skeletal surgery and craniofacial reconstruction. Dr. Ovadia can address multiple areas of the face and neck using facial bone contouring, soft tissue procedures, or a combination of both, depending on the procedures being performed.

Breast Augmentation & Body Feminization

Dr. Ovadia performs gender-affirming Breast Augmentation for transgender women seeking increased breast volume and changes to breast shape and proportion.

He also offers gender-affirming body contouring, including buttock augmentation. These procedures can be used to alter body contours and fat distribution in areas that may not change sufficiently through hormone therapy alone.

Transgender Patient Care

Gender-affirming surgery is a primary focus of Dr. Ovadia’s practice, with transgender and gender-diverse patients accounting for up to 75% of his patient population. Staff are trained to use patients’ chosen names and pronouns, and gender-affirming surgical information is incorporated throughout the practice’s patient education materials and online presence.

Dr. Ovadia offers free in-person, virtual and phone consultations. Patients typically wait 1–2 weeks for a consultation, and the reported wait for a surgery date is approximately 6 weeks.

His practice also regularly works with New Jersey Medicaid managed care plans and commercial insurance companies including UnitedHealthcare (including Oxford Health Plans), Aetna, Cigna, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Emblem.
