Dr. Katherine Gast

Gender-Affirming Vaginoplasty in Wisconsin

Dr. Katherine Gast, MD is a fellowship-trained plastic surgeon who specializes in Gender Affirmation Surgery for transfeminine individuals. Dr. Gast is the Medical Director of the UW Health Comprehensive Gender Services Program in Madison, Wisconsin. She performs Vaginoplasty, Breast Augmentation and Body Sculpting.

Dr. Gast received her medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in 2010 and completed her plastic surgery residency at U of MI in 2016. The following year, Dr. Gast completed the world-class Subspecialty Fellowship in Gender Affirming Surgery and Microsurgical Breast Reconstruction in Ghent, Belgium.

Dr. Gast performs the Penile Inversion method of Vaginoplasty, with reconstruction of the clitoris and labia minora. Creation of a feminine vulva with labia minora remains a technical challenge for surgeons, especially in circumcised patients. Dr. Gast can use a technique that uses prepuce skin in uncircumcised patients or distal shaft skin in circumcised patients for creation of both clitoral hood and labia minora. Dr. Gast also offers Peritoneal Pull-Through Vaginoplasty and Vulvoplasty.

For feminizing the body, Dr. Gast offers Breast Augmentation and Body Feminization (liposuction and fat grafting.)

The UW Health Comprehensive Gender Services Program helps transgender, gender expansive and non-binary adults access the highest quality gender affirming medical care. With a multidisciplinary team of providers that includes physicians from Plastic Surgery as well as Endocrinology, Internal Medicine, Otolaryngology, Voice Therapy and Urology, the program offers patients a "one stop shop" for medical transition.
