Harvard-Trained Plastic Surgeon Specializing in Gender-Affirming Surgery
Dr. Drew Marano, MD is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon based in New York City, specializing in Gender Affirmation Surgery. Following his plastic surgery residency, Dr. Marano became the first surgeon to complete the Harvard University Complex Gender and Microsurgery Fellowship. He subsequently joined Dr. Jonathan Keith at East Coast Advanced Plastic Surgery in 2023, where he continued to developed advanced expertise in gender-affirming procedures, including Robotic-Assisted Vaginoplasty and Facial Feminization. In 2025, Dr. Marano and Dr. Keith founded GAMMA (Gender Affirming Medical and Microsurgical Associates), a practice dedicated to delivering expert surgical care for transgender and nonbinary individuals. GAMMA serves patients across its two locations in New Jersey and New York City.

The Advantages of Robotic Vaginoplasty
Dr. Marano performs all of the common gender-affirming procedures, from facial to genital surgery, and tailors each procedure to meet the individual goals of his patients. A special focus in his practice is harnessing the power of robotic surgery. Robot-assisted Vaginoplasty has several benefits, including shorter operating time, less blood loss and an enhanced safety profile. For surgeons, using a robotic approach provides better visualization and instrument articulation, which are highly advantageous with a complex surgery like Vaginoplasty. Dr. Marano can use a robotic approach with both primary Peritoneal Vaginoplasty and revisional surgeries. He also offers Penile Inversion Vaginoplasty.
Other Gender-Affirming Genital Procedures
For patients who don't require a vaginal canal but would like an aesthetically pleasing vulva, Dr. Marano offers Vulvoplasty. If Vulvoplasty, Nullification or just the removal of testicles (Orchiectomy) feels like the best approach for you, Dr. Marano will be pleased to help you realize your goals.

Surgery Requirements
Dr. Marano is a member
of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH)
and follows WPATH guidelines for surgery:
- You will need to provide two referrals from qualified mental health professionals for genital procedures; one referral for other procedures unless otherwise specified by insurance.
- A letter from your hormone specialist stating you have been on 12 months of continuous hormones for genital procedures, unless clinically contraindicated.
Insurance Accepted
Dr. Marano is an in-network provider with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and accepts out-of-area BlueCard members with in-network benefits. Some New Jersey Medicaid plans may be accepted on a case-by-case basis.
For other insurance providers, authorization may be possible but coverage cannot be guaranteed. New York Medicaid and Medicare are not accepted.
Credit and debit cards are also accepted.
