- Implant Type: Saline implants are filled with saline (saltwater), typically during the surgery. Saline implants are popular due to their lower cost and the shorter incision needed to place them. Silicone implants are pre-filled with a silicone gel. They have emerged as the more popular choice due to their softer feel and appearance, which is especially important for individuals who don't have a lot of breast tissue.
- Implant Position: Breast implants can be positioned above (subglandular) or below the pectoral muscles (submuscular). Submuscular placement creates a gentler breast slope and provides more support for the implants.
- Implant Size: Breast implants come in a variety of sizes and shapes (or profiles.) The right implant size is one that is in proportion with your physique so your breasts. High profile implants have more projection and less width than a low or medium profile implant. - Dr. Jacobs uses informed consent and support letters from a mental health provider are not required. If you're using insurance to pay for your procedure(s), the insurance company will require letters and may also require hormone therapy.
