Dr. Jonathan Keith, MD, FACS is a board-certified, fellowship-trained plastic surgeon specializing in gender-affirming surgery. He was the first surgeon in New Jersey to offer the full range of gender-affirming procedures, including Facial Surgery and Vaginoplasty, and has long been recognized as a leader in the field. After establishing his gender-affirming surgery practice at East Coast Advanced Plastic Surgery (eCAPS), Dr. Keith was joined by Dr. Drew Marano. Together, they went on to found GAMMA (Gender Affirming Medical and Microsurgical Associates), a practice that is dedicated to providing expert surgical care for transgender and nonbinary individuals. GAMMA serves patients across its two locations in New Jersey and New York City.
Dr. Keith completed his 7-year residency at the University of Pittsburgh, one of the most well-respected plastic surgery training programs in the United States. In 2012, he became one of only four Americans awarded the Stephen S. Kroll Fellowship in microsurgery at the University Hospital of Gent, Belgium, where he trained under Dr. Phillip Blondeel and Dr. Stanley Monstrey, world-renowned experts in microvascular breast reconstruction and gender affirmation surgery, respectively. Dr. Keith gained experience in cutting edge techniques such as DIEP flaps for breast reconstruction and Vaginoplasty.
Dr. Keith is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a member of American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). He is a founding member of the Society of Gender Surgeons.
Dr. Keith offers the following Facial Feminization procedures:

- Tracheal Shave (Thyroid Cartilage Reduction)
Dr. Keith performs multiple types of feminizing genital surgery to meet different patients' goals including simply removing the testicles (Orchiectomy), creation of a vulva without a vaginal canal (Vulvoplasty), and the penile inversion method of creating a vagina (Vaginoplasty). Dr. Keith uses a robotic approach with Vaginoplasty, offering superior safety, decreased rates of stricture, and a minimally invasive method for harvesting a peritoneal graft which functions as vaginal mucosa.
Dr. Keith also performs Breast Augmentation using silicone or saline breast implants. Sometimes he uses fat grafting to improve the cleavage plane and tail of Spence areas.
Dr. Keith follows WPATH guidelines for surgery. You will need to provide two referrals from qualified mental health professionals for genital procedures; one referral for other procedures unless otherwise specified by insurance. You will also need a letter from your hormone specialist stating you have been on 12 months of continuous hormones for genital procedures, unless clinically contraindicated.
Insurance: Dr. Keith is in-network with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, and can also accept out-of-area BlueCard members with in-network benefits. With other insurance plans, authorization may be possible but coverage isn't guaranteed. Medicaid and Medicare are not accepted. Credit and debit cards are accepted.
