Medications to Avoid Before Gender-Affirming Surgery
When
preparing for surgery, your surgeon will ask you to discontinue any mediations that interfere
with normal blood clotting approximately three weeks pre-operatively.
These medications will likely include aspirin, aspirin-containing
compounds, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and vitamin E. Tylenol
may be suggested for normal pain relief. Medications
contained on the following list are anti-coagulant agents; they may contribute to excessive bleeding
during and after surgery.
In addition to these medications, your surgeon may also ask that hormone medication be discontinued.
Please consult with your physician and surgeon for specific recommendations and guidelines. Be sure to ask about when it's safe to resume taking your medications.
